What the Hell is Going On?

Alright, this has gotten worse than the staffing shuffle for a presidential candidate. Seriously. Pitchers pinch running is like communications staffers becoming foreign policy advisers or schedulers becoming campaign mangers. But I guess it has been done before. But done well? Entirely another question.

And welcome back Phillies, you are on our butts again. And it is not going to get easier for us.... the Brewers, Cubs and then Atlanta. And with no first string catcher, outfielders or second baseman plus the non-relief pitching staff, what's a gal to believe? Oh also, did I mention that not a single regular playing Met is hitting above .300 right now? Not even Reyes at .299. Sorry to pile it on.

We'll see what happens today, but having a hard time being optimistic. I am going for a swimming lesson as a way to manage my own DL inducing injury.

Ha. You seem to be in a downward spiral but they will make you believe again. I agree with the injury bug comment and whatnot, but look at the big picture, Jill.

But to address your pinch running comment: Willie Randolph screwed up. He used his bench in the 7th inning, and had Glavine batting in the 9th inning. He tried to defend it, saying:

"You got to go for it," Randolph said. "When you get an opportunity, they were shutting us down pretty much. When we started getting back in the game, we felt the momentum of what was going on, so we wanted to keep that flow going."

Wrong. He should have put in Castro and saved the bench for the 9th inning. I guess it's water under the bridge, but those games come back to haunt you in September.

I know the goal is to make it to October. But I just worry that these little things are the type of thing that prevent you from getting there... a death from a thousand cuts.
We should be beating teams like the Nats with our eyes closed...

Agree 100%. But remember, even the worst teams in baseball are going to take series from the best teams in baseball. It isn't really like football in that the Raiders would beat the Patriots (last year's Raiders vs. last year's Pats). In baseball everyone wins at least 60 games. Those wins are bound to include some quality one. Remember: 162 games. But it's easier to lose a later game if you've won an earlier one, ha.

John Maine a Cy Young candidate? Never know, he's pitching pretty well.

It's possible. The guy's a beast! Our beast!

Ha. And just imagine, we got him as a throw in for Anna..err, Chris Benson and Jorge Julio. Then turned Julion into El Duque. Gotta give props to Omar Minaya on that one.
